Studying at Oxford University

I studied in the Oxford University at Lady Margaret Hall philosophy, politics and economics. The majority of my teachers very experienced and qualified. Even teachers with low experience had a lot of knowledge and skills and their lectures were very usefulThe most widespread studying tool in the Oxford University is the tutorial with the college teachers. Usually there are two students for one tutor. In allow the students to receive the individual approach to the studying and discuss all the lectures and topics with the teacher individually. Usually, the tutor is the specialist in the narrow science field. It is very convenient to have an experienced tutor on each course. The tutorials last only one hour and are held three times per week. Every student receives so-called reading list beforehand. It is done to allow the students to prepare for the tutorial, to read some necessary books and to write the essays. It is impossible to read all recommended books, but after several tutorials the students understand how to choose the most appropriate book. Sometimes it is enough to read a little textbook, sometimes – a part of the introduction of big book. The students have to study gradually – from the simple to the complicated books. Usually the tutorials are held in the different colleges, especially if the courses are specialized. Most of all I like the tutorials in the colleges like St Johns and Corpus Christi.
In the morning in the university are usually held the lectures. But the majority of the students misses the university lectures and receives the educational material from other recourses. The students attend only interesting lectures. The main thing for the students is the self – motivation. If they possess this feature, they will achieve the success in the studying even without attending the lectures.
