Alwaleed Bin Talal Perseverance & Astuteness

Alwaleed Bin Talal  Perseverance & Astuteness
Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal is one of the most powerful Arabs in the World. He is one of the most astute and peculiar global tycoons. This nephew of the incumbent King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has not become the World’s wealthiest Arab due to oil revenues. His tireless capacity of work, his incredible business intuition, and his astuteness at estimating his investments have converted Kingdom Holding into one of the most important global multinationals. Nevertheless, Prince Alwaleed is also outstanding due to the incredible philanthropic labour of his Alwaleed Bin Talal Foundation and his continuous efforts to create bonds between Orient and Occident in a World under constant globalization.

The Prince's activities as an investor came to prominence when he bought a substantial tranche of shares in Citicorp in the 1990s when that firm was in difficulties. With an initial investment of $550 million to bail out Citibank caused by underperforming American real estate loan and Latin American businesses, his holdings in Citigroup now comprises half of his wealth worth US$10 billion. He has also made large investments in AOL, Apple Inc., WorldCom, Motorola, News Corporation Ltd and other technology and media companies.

A Week With Prince Alwaleed

A Week With Prince Alwaleed
It was an opportunity too rich to pass up. Prince Alwaleed, one of the world's most successful investors and the wealthiest man in the Middle East, had invited me to spend a week with him in Saudi Arabia. His objective: prove to Forbes that he is as wealthy as he claims to be. For years, the prince had told us he was worth several billion dollars more than the conservative estimates we printed in our list of the World's Billionaires, and he wanted to set the record straight.

Who is Arabian Warren Buffett ? Prince of Saudi Arabia
Until the one month anniversary of the September 11 attacks against the United States, Saudi Prince Al-Walid bin Talal bin Abdulaziz was not recognizable to most people outside of the Middle East and international business circles. Although he was then listed by Forbes magazine as the six richest person in the world (he is now eleventh) and had invested the bulk of his estimated $20 billion fortune in high-profile American corporations, until October 11, 2001 Al-Walid remained what Business Week once called "the most important financial kingpin that you've never heard of."1 His gift of a $10 million check to the victims of the World Trade Center disaster on that day would have made him a celebrity in the United States, had it not been followed by a statement so offensive to most Americans that New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani promptly returned it. The intense media frenzy which resulted was quickly superseded by the war in Afghanistan, however, and the prince soon became a mere antagonist in Giuliani's mythic rise to national fame
