The Prince's influence stretches far beyond the business world - he has very close ties to many Western leaders, and is a prominent philanthropist. More immediately, AlWalid, Gates and Isadore Sharp (chief executive of the Four Seasons hotel group) have teamed up to buy the Four Seasons group for US$3.37bn. AlWalid has also joined forces with four other billionaires as part of consortium bidding for Saudi Arabia's lucrative third mobile license.
