Alia El Solh, aunt of Prince Walid
Alia El - Solh was eldest daughter of the late former Prime Minister Riad El-Solh. She was aunt of Prince Walid bin talal. She was also known as daughter of independence. Her father was the first Prime Minister of Lebanon (1943–1945). He was known as one of the most important personalities in Lebanon’s struggle for independence and as a person able to unify Lebanon’s various religious groups in the struggle for independence.
Alia was known as “the daughter of independence” and continued in her father `s struggle for Lebanon’s independence, sovereignty and freedom. Her activity started at the American University of Beirut in the early 1950s. On campus she was known for leading demonstrations for women's rights, and she wrote extensively about Lebanese and Arab causes for a variety of publications.
